GO GEORGE joins in community fun event

Amazing Race Start

Amazing Race participants turned up at the first bus stop on their route in high spirits. This was before they realised that they had left their bus tickets at the starting point.

Just one week after colourful GO GEORGE staff members lined the streets of the town in celebration of the bus service’s third birthday, equally interesting characters could be seen boarding the buses in Pacaltsdorp on Reconciliation Day, Saturday 16 December. This time, the excited passengers were participants in an Amazing Race event organised by local radio station, Heartbeat FM, as part of their Family Fun Day held at Pacaltsdorp High School.

Amazing Race Winners

And the winners of the GO GEORGE Amazing Race held in Pacaltsdorp on ReconciliationDay were … the Vollies! Looking most pleased with themselves and their prize goodies, the victorious team posed with some of the organisers. Front, from left: Jayden Kammies, Grenville Julies, Deonlin Sampson, and Ferdie Geduld (GO GEORGE Champion). At the back are, from left, Karen Lamberts (GO GEORGE), Donovan Julies, Michael Jaftha, and Lucinda Orie (Manager: Heartbeat FM).

GO GEORGE was approached by the organisers to be part of the race, with participants catching the normal scheduled buses to get to the points indicated by the clues they received from race officials at certain designated bus stops. Some teams came dressed up in costume, others turned up looking like serious athletes with just the right sports gear to intimidate their opponents.

All participants received a GO GEORGE drawstring bag with water, a foam peak cap, and a handy pocket guide displaying route maps and timetables. Teams could be seen gathered around route maps with intense concentration along the way.

Members of the winning team, the Vollies, each received a GO GEORGE shopping bag with branded items including a cap, T-shirt, pen and pencil set, umbrella, blanket and one multi-journey bus ticket with 10 trips.
