Mayor Naik with Smart Card mobile vendor
Smartie, the GO GEORGE Smart Card mascot, felt very honoured to introduce the Smart Card mobile vendor vehicle to George Executive Mayor, Alderman Malvin Naik. The Mayor invites residents to get their Smart Cards in time to make use of the free-travel offer. The two mobile vendor vehicles will start travelling to different parts of town to sell Smart Cards on Monday, 15 October to ensure that all passengers have access to Smart Card facilities.

GO GEORGE has announced free bus travel over four consecutive weekends for passengers holding their own Smart Cards. To celebrate this milestone when the system goes live, cardholders
will also travel for free on the first three days after implementation of the Smart Card system: Thursday to Saturday, 15, 16 and 17 November 2018.

This generous offer to the public has been announced as incentive to purchase their Smart Cards soon after they become available on 15 October 2018. On Saturday and Sunday 20 and 21, and 27
and 28 October, 3 and 4, and 10 and 11 November, passengers will be allowed to travel for free if they can produce their Smart Card.

“Apart from getting people to buy their Smart Cards as soon as possible and to avoid a bottle neck when we roll out, we also want to encourage passengers to use the accrued savings from the free
travel days to load trips onto their Smart Cards so long, that can then be used from Sunday 18 November,” says James Robb, GO GEORGE Manager. “As soon as Smart Cards become
available, trips can be loaded at the same Smart Card kiosks and mobile vehicles that sell the cards. The top-up vendors will start selling trips on 1 November.”

A leaflet with the list of Smart Card kiosks and the schedule of the mobile vehicles that will travel to different parts of town to sell cards and trips is now available from GO GEORGE communication champions on the buses and at bus stops. It can also be picked up at the Info Kiosk at the Transport Hub where the information officer is ready to answer questions about the new system or it can be downloaded from the home page at www.gogeorge.org.za.
