Due to the closure of York Street and one-lane traffic in Courtenay Street/Knysna Road from 06:00 – 13:00 during the Outeniqua Wheelchair Challenge (OCC) on Saturday 20 February 2016, vast route changes to the GO GEORGE bus service will be implemented during this time. All routes except routes 3, 58, 61 and 14 will be affected.

Passengers are requested to study the explanation of the changes below, and are encouraged to phone the GO GEORGE Call Centre, should they have any doubts, or need help planning their trips on the day.

Route 13 City Loop and Route 9 Industrial Loop will be suspended for the morning and start operating at 13:00.  There will be alternative ways to reach the industrial area, since all the Pacaltsdorp, Rosemoor and Garden Route Mall buses will detour through the industrial areas on Saturday.

Route 2 Blanco will follow the normal route to the CBD and will return via Hibernia Street on the same route.  The normal return route via Market and York Streets will therefore be cut out.

Routes 1A New Dawn Park, 1B Harmony Park and 60 Rosedale will all follow their normal route up to the traffic light at Stanmar Motors where they will turn right.  These buses will continue along PW Botha Boulevard, turn left into Rand Street, into Union Street and right into Cradock Street to the CBD interchange.  These buses will return on the same route until it reaches Beach Road and then follow their respective normal routes.

Route 7 Garden Route Mall will start behind Builders Warehouse.  It will continue along the Rosemoor Route 53 route, but will keep straight in Beer Street that becomes Grens Street.  The route will turn left into Industrial Road, right into Nelson Mandela Boulevard, right into Mitchell Street, left into Hibernia Street and left into Cradock Street to the CBD.

Route 53 Rosemoor will also start behind Builders Warehouse.  It will continue on its normal route, but turn left into Industrial Road at the Railway Museum.  It will continue on Industrial Road, right into Nelson Mandela Boulevard, right into Mitchell Street, left into Market Street and right into Cradock Street to the CBD.

Route 12 Pacaltsdorp Garden Route Mall will not turn onto the N2, but will cross the Pacaltsdorp bridge and turn right at the traffic light at Stanmar Motors.  The bus will continue along PW Botha Boulevard, straight up to Nelson Mandela Boulevard where it will turn left.  At Industrial Road, the route will take a right into Grens Street, left into St Mary’s Street from where it will follow the same route as Rosemoor Route 53 to the Mall.  This route will also pick up passengers behind Builders Warehouse at the Mall.

Route 56 Denneoord will start at the CBD and cross Courtenay Street, as usual.  It will continue on the anti-clockwise route, but turn left into Stockenstrom Avenue and back into Wellington Street. These buses will run according to the schedule for both the forward and reverse routes, but only in an anti-clockwise direction.

Route 24 Loerie Park will run down Market Street from the Cradock Street interchange, but turn right into Mitchell Street and left into Nelson Mandela Boulevard.  It will turn left into Industrial Road, left into Mission Street and straight across the crossing at Knysna Road into Second Avenue.  It will turn right into Stander Street and follow the route up to the Saasveld Road where it will turn around and follow the same route back to the CBD.  Theses buses will also run according to the schedule.

There may be delays on all these routes due to traffic being redirected and congestions at the crossings at Courtenay Street, Knysna Road and York Street, and detours being longer in distance than the normal routes.
