The George Municipality regrets to inform our valued GO GEORGE customers that all public transport services on Wednesday morning, 02 March 2016 are suspended and services for the day will only commence at 14:00.
This is due to a planned protest march by a group referring to themselves as the disgruntled taxi industry who are not satisfied with the roll-out of the GO GEORGE project.
“We realise the negative impact this has on our businesses and schools, for residents who need public transport access to social services, and scholars,” says Executive Mayor Charles Standers. This was a very difficult decision for us to make, but the safety of all our customers and staff is of utmost importance and having assessed all the risks, we feel that this is the best decision given previous violent actions by disgruntled individuals.”
“We will aim to resume services earlier than 14:00 should the protest march conclude peacefully ahead of schedule,” says James Robb, GO GEORGE Manager. Due to these circumstances beyond our control, GO GEORGE will be informing the public today through a wide variety of channels about the suspension of the service.
We request the community to support those who will need transport to get to work or school or health facilities. We apologize for the inconvenience and urge our customers to call our Call Centre on 0800 044 044 and follow us on Facebook.
