Bus users rejoice at Pacaltsdorp route changes

Three weeks after rolling out trial routes to Pacaltsdorp, GO GEORGE this week announced several route changes that will come into effect on Sunday, 31 May 2015, and will be tested for the following four weeks. This follows after intensive deliberation between all stakeholders, with the needs and requests of bus users as main guideline.

James Robb, manager of GO GEORGE, says the aim is to offer Pacaltsdorp residents the best possible public transport service. “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience during this trial period, but that is exactly what the first weeks after a roll-out is about: We test the trial routes and make improvements based on feedback from the community.”

One of the changes bus passengers had asked for and about which they are very excited, is the special early morning trip from Pacaltsdorp at 05:00, which goes via CJ Langenhoven Street around the circle at George Hospital to drop hospital workers, amongst others, then down Courtenay Street, into First Street to also deliver hostel workers close to the school hostels of Outeniqua High School and Van Kervel School.

A direct trip from Pacaltsdorp to the Garden Route Mall will now also enable residents who work there to reach work on time.

Initially, residents who live in Europe had to walk some distance to the closest bus stop, but after feedback from the community, the route has been amended to include a trip through Harmony Park and Europe to the CBD.

Community meeting

A special community meeting to explain the route changes in detail and to answer the Pacaltsdorp community’s questions about the bus system will be held at 19:00 on Monday, 25 May 2015, at New Dawn Primary School.

“Pacaltsdorp residents are encouraged to attend the meeting,” said Robb. “This is the ideal opportunity to get advice about the best route to passengers’ frequent destinations.”

Multi-journey tickets

From sales of almost 400 tickets in the first week after its launch, it is clear that bus users welcome the new multi-journey ticket. The ticket costs R75 and is valid for 10 trips, a saving of R10.

For the moment, it is available from the following vendors: Millies, Denneoord Multisave, Captain’s Cabin, Albert Motors, Yorkers Superette, Engen Eco Stop, Shell Kraaibosch, Busy Corner, Multi Motors, Hypersave, Pacaltsdorp Superette, Caltex Fourway Motors, Rosedale Superette, South Cape Motors and the cashiers at George Municipality.
