Delays and rerouting due to N2 closure

On Thursday, 18 October 2018 the N2 will be closed between the Pacaltsdorp interchange and the interchange at the Garden Route Mall. This is in preparation for two crossovers to be created on both sides of the pedestrian bridge under construction over the N2.

All N2 traffic from the Cape Town and Knysna directions will be diverted through George for the day, along Knysna Road, Courtenay Street and York Street, resulting in delays to all GO GEORGE services using these roads.

Route 12 rerouted

Route 12 Pacaltsdorp – Garden Route Mall will be rerouted for the day. Instead of turning right onto the N2, buses will continue along York Street where they will turn right onto Hope Street at the circle, continue into Memorium Street, turn right into Courtenay Street and then right into the Garden Route Mall road.┬áThe same routing will be followed on the return trips to Pacaltsdorp. Delays must be expected since it will take longer to get to the Mall via town.

The same arrangements will apply on Monday evening, 22 October 2018 when traffic will again be diverted through George so that the roadworks can move to the opposite side of the highway.

Delays for a longer period

In the meantime, from Friday 19 October 2018 for the next six to eight weeks, the cross-overs in the area of the pedestrian bridge might cause delays on Route 12 due to possible bottle necks and a speed limit reduction to 40 km/h along this section of the N2. GO GEORGE will monitor the situation closely to establish whether it might be best for the sake of the bus schedule to reroute Route 12 through town for the entire time of these roadworks. For now, rerouting will only take place on Thursday, 18 October and the evening of Monday, 22 October.

Traffic police will be in place to help guide traffic and minimise disruption of traffic flow. GO GEORGE apologises for any inconvenience caused to passengers and other stakeholders and calls upon employers to be patient when staff are delayed and late for work.
