Scholar transport in Pacaltsdorp not affected by GO GEORGE

George Municipality is aware of the minibus taxi transport difficulties currently being experienced by commuters in the Pacaltsdorp area which members of the public have incorrectly attributed to the GO GEORGE bus system.

The Municipality wishes to provide the following information: “ The GO GEORGE service has not yet been implemented in the Pacaltsdorp area and as such, minibus taxis have not been removed from the area. The only exception to this are 11 operating licenses that were relinquished by operators who wished to buy out of the system early,” said Portolio Councillor for Civil Engineering Melvin Naik.

Director for Civil Engineering Services, Harold Basson confirmed that scholar, contract and shuttle licenses and services are not affected by the GO GEORGE service and should continue to operate as before. It appears that certain operators are choosing not to rank their vehicles (i.e stop at the predetermined taxi waiting areas) but rather to sweep through the area. This means that commuters are not able to access transport at their usual locations and times. George Municipality and GO GEORGE regrets any inconvenience caused to commuters but requests the public to be advised that this is a situation outside of the direct control of the Municipality.
