In preparation for the roll-out of Phase 4 of the GO GEORGE bus service, trial drives through Thembalethu will take place from 2 – 13 November 2015, supported and monitored by local law enforcement agencies, including the SA Police Service and provincial traffic department.
During these drives, undertaken in the blue and green branded buses, the time it takes to complete the various proposed routes by bus will be established, while the roads in the area will be checked to see if they are wide enough and can handle the weight of the three different types of buses (the standard, midi- and minibus) used by GO GEORGE.
According to James Robb, GO GEORGE Manager, a final roll-out date has not yet been established, “but by conducting these surveys timeously, we will be ready operationally to get the wheels rolling as soon as the date is announced. We know the residents in those areas are anxiously awaiting the bus service and want to limit unnecessary delays,” says Robb.
All taxi associations operating in the affected area will be notified that these activities taking place from 2nd – 13th November are tests only.
