Maryke Burts lives in Borcherds and is an old hand when it comes to using her GO GEORGE Smart Card, travelling to the CBD by taxi and then taking a bus for the last leg of her journey to work. 'I can hardly wait to pay for only one trip when the buses come to my neighbourhood. And the free travel days really feels like Christmas!' she says.

All GO GEORGE passengers who have Smart Cards will join in the celebration when the bus service rolls out service to Parkdene, Ballotsview, Conville, Borcherds and Lawaaikamp on Sunday 22 March 2020. Not only the passengers on the new routes will be treated to three days of free travel – all Smart Card holders, all over town, will travel for free when they show their cards upon boarding the bus from Sunday 22 March until Tuesday 24 March.

“We want to encourage the passengers on our new routes to get their GO GEORGE Smart Cards as soon as possible and load trips so that they are ready when the wheels start rolling their way,” said James Robb, GO GEORGE Manager. “It is unnecessary to pay R13 to buy a cash trip on the bus when you can pay as little as R9.50. When loading 10 trips and more at a time, the cost is R9.50 per trip, and R10.50 per trip when you load less than 10 trips – still a saving of R2.50.”

The Smart Card team is actively recruiting top-up vendors in the areas along the new routes and GO GEORGE will announce these names as soon as they are ready to start selling trips.

In the meantime, passengers can buy their Smart Cards at any of the Smart Card kiosks situated at the Garden Route Mall, the Transport Hub in Cradock Street, Blanco Triangle, and York Street, as well as the two Smart Card mobile vehicles that sell cards and trips at points all over town. The new Smart Card mobile vehicle schedule has been expanded to include the areas on the new routes and will be implemented on Wednesday 4 March.

For buyers who can show an official form of identification, the first-card price of R21 is still valid and includes two pre-loaded trips. The normal price of the card is R25, with no pre-loaded trips.
