The long wait is over: a fleet of GO GEORGE buses will leave the depot long before sunrise on Sunday morning 22 March 2020 for their first scheduled trips into Parkdene, Ballotsview, Conville, Borcherds and Lawaaikamp.
This comes 11 months after the initial roll-out planned for 28 April 2019 had been cancelled by political heads, three days prior to the event. Residents of these areas were hugely disappointed and unhappy at the time and took some convincing to trust the promises this time around.
However, the hype of activity in their area with the Municipality completing the last bus stops and shelters, communication champions visiting their houses from door to door and banners going up, has picked up the mood and revived the excitement and anticipation that was part of the previous attempt. Drivers on route training this past week were greeted with waves and cheers from enthusiastic residents.
Support for new passengers
The GO GEORGE communication champions will be at bus stops and on the buses from day one, assisting passengers and familiarising them with the new way of travelling on a scheduled bus service. An information kiosk has also been set up in front of Parkdene Secondary School and will be staffed from 10:00 until 18:00 on weekdays and 09:00 until 13:00 on Saturdays to assist new passengers with trip planning and system information.
The GO GEORGE Call Centre (0800 044 044) is operational daily, weekends included, from 05:00 until 21:30. The GO GEORGE Facebook page is a useful source of the latest news, information and handy tips on using the bus service. See route maps and timetables.
